Moving to a new country comes with major decisions – none bigger than finding the right school. At the American Overseas School of Rome (AOSR), we understand what families need when relocating: a strong academic program, a welcoming community, and the confidence that your child is safe, engaged, and happy from morning drop-off to the end of the day. We've been that place since 1947.

AOSR serves students aged 3 to 19 with a proven American-international curriculum. We offer both the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, ensuring students are prepared for university anywhere in the world.

Families often ask why AOSR offers both Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. The answer is simple: not every student is the same. Some thrive in the depth and structure of the IB. Others benefit from the flexibility and subject choice that AP offers. We give students both pathways because we know the world they're heading into values agility and choice.

But we also know that academic quality isn't the only thing parents are looking for.

You want your child to enjoy going to school. To be excited about their day. To have meaningful friendships and feel supported, especially in a new environment. AOSR is known for its caring, international culture – with over 50 nationalities represented. About a third of our families are Italian, another third American, and the rest from all over. This diversity means your child will feel included, not isolated.

You also want a full day that works for your schedule. Our school day is structured to keep students active and engaged, with after-school activities, sports, arts, and clubs that run well into the afternoon. Whether it's robotics, soccer, debate, or theater, students can find something that keeps them learning and having fun.

For working parents, knowing your child is in good hands all day is essential. Our 6-acre campus in north Rome is safe, well-equipped, and fully supervised. Students have access to high-quality meals, nurse services, transportation options, and secure entry and exit systems. When you reunite at the end of the day, your child has stories to share – and you can focus on family time, knowing everything else was taken care of.

Our faculty are experienced, mostly native English-speaking educators who truly know their students. We focus on personal learning, strong relationships, and helping each child thrive academically and emotionally.

We know moving is stressful. School shouldn't be. AOSR gives you peace of mind and gives your child a place to grow, belong, and succeed.
