The Hutchins School is an Anglican day and boarding school for boys from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, whose supportive learning community works together to nurture the character of boys. Established in 1846, we are one of Australia's most established schools and as a community we aspire to be people of integrity who act with humility, kindness, courage and respect.

Located in Australia's southernmost state, Tasmania, just five kilometres from the state's capital city, Hobart. Our Sandy Bay campus enjoys expansive grounds overlooking the picturesque River Derwent, allowing our students to make the most of a Tasmanian lifestyle.

The Hutchins School has modern classrooms, state-of-the-art science and computer laboratories, two libraries, a Performing Arts Centre with purpose-built dance studio, a chapel, Sailing Academy and a family orientated boarding house.

Our school continues to grow its advanced facilities and offers opportunities for senior students to extend their knowledge and learning into key co-curricular areas of interest such as Engineering Design, Environmental Science, Information Systems and Digital Technologies, Media Productions and Dance Choreography and Performance on top of our highly reputable academic curriculum.

As the only single-sex boys boarding school in Tasmania, we understand the importance of your child's formative years in the development of their identity. Every student is encouraged, nurtured and challenged to be the best version of themselves and given the opportunity to pursue their own individual talents, wherever their passions may lie. Inclusion and true belonging are at the core of Hutchins.

Fundamental to the Hutchins experience is the unique Power of 9 program. This program is designed to develop a strong sense of purpose in all students in Year 9 as they learn more about themselves. Students spend a full term away at a waterfront location where they prepare and experience outdoor challenges around Tasmania, Australia or overseas designed to extend each student as they take responsibility for their learning journey. Challenge locations include Port Davey and the wilderness of Southern Tasmania, Central Australia and overseas, most recently in Fiji.
